Are you an avid live music lover and concert goer? Have quarantine and canceled shows got you down about missing out on seeing your favorite artists perform? Not to worry! Here are the top 5 ways to enjoy live music while stuck inside.
1. Sofar Sounds
Sofar Sounds is an incredible way to discover new local music anywhere you are in the world. In normal circumstances, shows feature a secret location where a small intimate music-loving audience gathers while up-and-coming artists from their own city perform in unique spaces like coffee shops or museums. In light of the Coronavirus, Sofar is continuing to be a space for live music by hosting live virtual shows on their website almost every day with artists from around the world. Each day you can find new artists and music to discover while enjoying a live performance!
2. Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook Livestreams
Many artists are taking to social media platforms to connect with their audiences and continue performing. Some artists have been doing livestreams in lieu of tours that have been canceled and many are going live regularly just to keep their fans’ spirits up with their music. Check out your favorite artists’ pages and see if they are holding any live streams.
3. Live Concert Events
With live music on hold, artists are not only doing their own live streams but also putting together collaborative virtual live concerts. Elton John hosted a iHeartRadio Living Room Concert at the end of March featuring performances from artists like the Backstreet Boys, Billie Eilish and Alicia Keys to raise money for front line workers. Along the same lines, The Global Citizen and The World Health Organization started the ‘Together, at Home’ campaign where famous artists are live-streaming on Instagram to promote social distancing.
4. Be in your favorite artist’s music video
Some artists who have released albums or songs during or right before the Coronavirus struck have been getting creative with their music videos. Artists like Grimes and Oh Wonder have been inviting their fans to record and send in videos of themselves singing, dancing or interacting with their new songs to include in the music videos. These opportunities give music artists and chance to connect deeper with their fans in this tough time and for fans to be a part of the music they love. A chance like this probably wouldn’t happen without the current situation so take advantage of it. Follow your favorite artists and who knows, you might get to be a part of the insanely cool opportunity to be immortalized in their music videos!
5. Create your own live music concert experience with your friends
If all else fails and you still can’t shake the corona blues, create your own live concert! Put together a playlist with live versions of your favorite songs, throw on your favorite festival outfit, invite your friends along on Zoom of Facetime and enjoy your corona friendly concert!
