A Galentine’s Day Brunch Guide

By Sarah Dougherty

As a sequel to my Align article from November, “Recipes for a Cozy Fall Dinner Party,” I thought I’d provide a guide to this amazingly pink and girly holiday to spend with all your friends: Galentine’s Day. Originating from an episode of the lovely and criminally underrated tv show Parks and Recreation, this day is all about celebrating your friendships, toasting with lots of cocktails and sweet treats, and dressing up in your favorite red and pink attire. You can even find most of these things at Trader Joe’s and have everyone pitch in. However you celebrate, here are a few ideas for food, drinks and decor to get a party together and pull off a Pinterest-worthy Galentine’s Day!

Pink Mimosas:

A twist on the classic brunch mimosa, this 3-ingredient recipe is an easy cocktail to whip up! All you have to do is fill 6-8 glasses halfway with sparkling wine, top with grapefruit juice, and garnish with raspberries or grapefruit slices.

Ingredients:

  • 1 bottle rosé sparkling wine

  • 2 cups fresh-squeezed or store-bought grapefruit juice (about 2 or 3 grapefruits worth)

  • Raspberries to garnish with (optional)

French Toast with Berries:

In my opinion, French toast is one of the quickest and easiest brunch foods that always impresses people and fills the room with sweet aromas. You can make this recipe as simple or elaborate as you’d like. Feel free to grab other fun Valentine’s Day treats like chocolate, candy hearts, sugar cookies, or whatever sweet things you like to snack on. For all the directions and details, visit: https://www.halfbakedharvest.com/cinnamon-sugar-french-toast/

Ingredients (to serve 6):

  • 6 eggs

  • 1 ½ cups milk (original recipe says whole milk, but I think any milk is fine)

  • 2 tbsp bourbon (optional)

  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract

  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon (and ¼ tsp nutmeg if you have it)

  • 1 loaf challah bread, sliced (sourdough works too)

  • ¼ cup granulated sugar

  • Kosher salt

  • Butter for the pan

  • Berries, maple syrup, and mascarpone/whipped cream to top with

Decor Inspo:

For a nice table setting, of course, you’ll want the usual plates, silverware, napkins and glasses. To make it extra festive, you can add anything heart-shaped or on-theme that you can find. Goodwill is a good place to find cheap wine glasses, candy dishes, candles, and random little pink and red pieces that show up around February. For flowers, they’re always pretty affordable at Trader Joe’s, whether they are baby’s breath or roses. Just go for whatever strikes your fancy!
