Lofi artist Clairo is best known for her seemingly effortless style of dreamy music, for which she coined the term “bedroom pop.” That’s exactly how Claire Cottrill became Clairo; she achieved overnight stardom from a music video recorded in her bedroom. The video is essentially three grainy Photo Booth clips compiled together, her trendy sunglasses changing from clip to clip as she Lip syncs the lyrics to her song.
Since her initial “Pretty Girl” music video went viral, Clairo released a few other singles before releasing her first full album entitled “Immunity” in August of 2019. This album is much more personal, much deeper, and more professionally composed in comparison to some of her first songs. Yet, the dreamy “bedroom pop” energy she originally adopted is still there.
Clairo’s personal style coincides with that of her musical reputation. It’s laid-back and comfortable, while still managing to be feminine and trendy. She tends to keep her outfits very minimalistic and attainable, but something about it makes you covet her look.
A signature Clairo outfit would consist of light-wash baggy denim jeans, a comfy sweatshirt or fun sweater, and converse paired with some dainty jewelry. For her makeup look, she usually keeps it barefaced with a fun pop of colored eyeliner or eyeshadow.
These photos were taken at the Portland show on Clairo’s “Immunity” tour. For this performance, Clairo wore white denim jeans paired with a white graphic hoodie. The graphic on the hoodie is a picture of a mouse and reads “Clairo” in bubble letters. She wore this on stage in Portland before it was released as her official tour merch.
In interviews, Clairo often expresses her surprise over her quick rise to fame. She did not at all expect to be where she is today; she was a 19-year-old sophomore in college when “Pretty Girl” went viral.
Clairo’s relatability and success story makes her someone that fans want to root for. Her personal style is one which young girls try to emulate. Viral stardom is still such a new concept in our world of social media, so people want to see how Clairo grows to find her musical and stylistic niche in the industry.
