Corsets

Written & Photographed by Natalie Dulansky

Art Director: Grace Cardinale

I was inspired originally to do this shoot because of my love, rather obsession, with sewing while in quarantine this summer. It is an activity that calms me and allows me to create beautiful things, my favorite being corsets. I’ve made about 15 corsets, but this one I made for this shoot is truly my favorite. It took me about a week to thrift the fabric and create this matching dress and corset set. The small waist corset is one of the harder versions I’ve attempted to create, but the product was worth the time and effort when I saw it worn so well by our lovely model Nicole Lyon. The shoot is a reflection of a style of clothing that we don’t see often in the current day, but I sort of wish we would. I hope you can observe how we played with a sense of restriction and coldness in this shoot, only contrasted by small hints of playfulness.
