Give Crystals a Try

By Amanda Lurey

Growing up, I loved gemstone dig kits. Some of the only blurry memories I have as a kid are

digging up an amethyst on my carpeted bedroom floor and sifting for pyrite at school. (For

context: I went to school in California and was learning about the Gold Rush.)

Since then, I’ve spent an embarrassing amount of money spoiling my friends at Bree’s Way on

Alder Street. Beyond the colorful array of crystals spread across the room in clear cases, there are

candles, herbs, posters, and more scattered across the room –– so there’s a perfect gift for anyone,

even yourself.

Here are some of my favorite crystals:

1. Amethyst: Amethyst is associated with tranquility and groundedness. It ranges from dark

purple to translucent lavender. Linked with the crown and throat chakras, amethyst is meant to

bring peace of mind and calm decision-making.

2. Lapis Lazuli: Lapis lazuli is a powerful blue with spots of white, gray, black, and shimmery

gold. It’s connected with the throat and third eye chakras. Lapis is known as a protection stone

that brings deep peace and –– through newfound self-awareness –– honest, courageous

conversation.

3. Malachite: Malachite is a rich green, with bands of brighter green swirling around. Associated

with the heart and throat chakras, malachite is great for keeping negative vibes away. The release

of bad energy encourages breaking patterns and strong personal development.

My advice: Figure out what your intentions are – whether that’s regarding passion, finances,

communication, etc. –– and find a crystal you feel drawn to. Diving into the metaphysical can be

intimidating at first, but baby steps and pretty rocks make it easier than you may think.
