Mental health: it’s just as vital to our well-being as our physical health, but it’s harder to see. What’s going on in our heads can feel invisible, or even separate, from the outside world.
The reality is that our mental and physical states are incredibly intertwined and affect us immensely. While there’s no quick fix for many serious mental health issues, and some battles last a lifetime, there are things you can implement into your thinking to cultivate a more positive lifestyle and worldview.
Actions may speak louder than words, but our actions stem from how we think.
This is why it’s important to make sure that what we are telling ourselves is shaping us into the people we want to be. First step? Positive self-talk. This is much easier said than done, as we are all our own harshest critics, but by not dragging yourself down every time you make a mistake is absolutely vital to being your best self. If this is something you find hard to do, daily self-affirmations can be a more concrete way to get some scheduled positivity into your mind.
Try this:
Every morning (or every evening, whatever works for you) tell yourself what you want, who you want to be, and that you already are this person. Many people have tried this and say that even this simple action of manifestation has helped actually bring these things that they desire into their lives. Setting goals can seem difficult, but when you say them aloud to yourself, it makes it more real and more personal. Also, reminding ourselves that we are already enough, and already capable of achieving great things is so much more helpful and healthy than telling ourselves that we aren’t.
Another simple way to make your goals turn into your reality is to write them down. Write them over and over and stick them somewhere you’ll see everyday, or even type up a list and put them on your phone’s home screen. One of the hardest parts of making our dreams into our realities is remembering to work at it on a daily basis, so reminders are key. Also, writing them down (and even speaking them out loud) makes your dreams and goals seem more attainable.
Your mentality is your reality, so it’s important to make sure that your mind is a pleasant place to live. Every change you make in your life first starts with thinking it into existence, and the action stems from there. More than anything, we need to treat ourselves like we treat others. Changing your headspace can change your life if you let it.
