Like many of us, I am always listening to music throughout the day. As a seasoned music connoisseur, I love when artists have variety within their music. Some of my favorite artists, like A$AP Rocky and Doja Cat, incorporate a range of sounds into their songs so they fit different atmospheres. When I walk to class or do my homework, I like to listen to soft, warm music. As the day transitions into the night, I prefer loud, upbeat songs. When it comes to choosing music, it can be hard to find the right songs that coincide with the time of day's energy. Here are some of my favorite artists that can help you transition from a calm day to an energetic night.
A$AP Rocky
As an artist, A$AP Rocky is known for not conforming to the traditional style and sound of rap and hip-hop. For a daytime walk or when you’re feeling in the mood for something more mellow, “Changes” and “Purity” are two great choices. On a night out with friends, you might want to try queuing “Praise The Lord (Da Shine)” and “F**kin’ Problems” for more of an energetic feel. My personal favorite for a night out is “Lord Pretty Flacko Jodye 2.”
Doja Cat
Doja Cat is often credited for her musical versatility. Her music ranges from pop to hip-hop to rap, and more. “Kiss Me More” and “Love To Dream” are the perfect songs to play with your friends in the car–they showcase Doja Cat’s pop music abilities extraordinarily well. When the day turns to night, some of Doja Cat’s rap music may be more of what you’re looking for. “Tia Tamera” and “Need To Know” are some of Doja Cat’s best rap songs, lyrically.
Don Toliver
Known for his abstract sound, Don Toliver has a wide variety of music that ranges from slow and smooth to fast and upbeat. For a daytime drive, “Heaven Or Hell” always fits the occasion. If you’re feeling like you need a song to start your night with, you might want to try listening to “Holdin’ Steel” or “Back Up.” Whether it’s day or night, Don Toliver has a song for you.
Billie Eilish
Praised for her accomplishments in the music industry, Billie Eilish’s music spreads across many of pop’s sub-genres. When you need to take a break and relax during a long day, “Lovely” and “My Boy” are some of her best works. If you’re feeling overwhelmed with your day, I love to play “Happier Than Ever” to get myself back on track. If you want a song with more bass and a beat to it, “Oxytocin” and “Bad Guy” can get any party started.
The Marías
As an indie pop and rock band, The Marías music has more of a psychedelic feel to it. “I Like It” and “Ruthless” are the perfect song choices for a brunch with friends. The calmness of their music makes it the perfect fit for any daytime activity. If you’re looking for something to play after dinner, try checking out “Over The Moon” or “Only In My Dreams.”
Rüfüs Du Sol
On more of the disco and synth-pop side of music, Rufus Du Sol creates uplifting music for any time of the day. A song I often start my morning with is “Treat You Better.” On top of that, I am constantly playing “You Were Right” and “Say A Prayer For Me” throughout my day. When it’s time to go out with friends, I like to start the night off with “Eyes” or “Underwater.”
Tyler The Creator
From album to album, Tyler the Creator’s music style often varies. He dives into a plethora of different genres such as alternative, rap, jazz, and hip-hop. “See You Again” and “EARFQUAKE” are the perfect songs to accompany you during your morning routine. When the sun goes down and you want to go out, “LEMONHEAD” and “Who Dat Boy” are some of Tyler The Creator’s best rap songs.
Whether you’re going on a midday drive around town or partying with friends, these artists have a song for the occasion. It’s important to find music that speaks to you, so try out some of these songs and see if they resonate with you.
