Valentine’s Day Self-Care Tips

The time of the year that many single people dread is slowly approaching. Valentine’s Day is widely regarded as one of the most difficult days for those who are single. Honestly though, why does it have to be like this? February 14th is really just another occasion to add to your calendar, and it has just as much meaning in your thoughts as you give it.

We often overlook how critical it is to replenish our love for ourselves before giving it out to other people. Thus, this Valentine’s day we’re focusing on self-care. It’s a terrific excuse to pamper yourself, and these simple pleasures will allow you to enjoy your own company. With Valentine’s Day just right around the corner, I have the perfect tips to implement into your routine on this extra special day.

Indulge in your Guilty Pleasures

Take this how you please. Whether it be your favorite meal, a box of chocolates, or even a cheesy rom-com, taking part in these can always boost your mood. Guilty pleasures have been proven to enhance a person’s self esteem and quality of life through eliciting happy feelings, relieving anxiety, and improving health. Gratifying actions are deemed beneficial and acceptable–do not have shame for eating/watching/doing something you love! Personally, I love ordering takeout from Ta Ra Rin, my favorite Thai restaurant in Eugene.

Try a New Look

Being open to trying new things can ease you into having a more positive outlook on life. Try and take on new challenges. Sometimes, it can be difficult to maintain growth when you’re surrounded by the same old things. Take this opportunity to go beyond your limits and interact with people who have diverse viewpoints! Maybe try a new hairstyle or invest in a unique eyeshadow palette! I know I’ll be making a visit to Buffalo Exchange to find some funky digs.

Gratitude Journaling

Open your journal and turn to a fresh page. Find your safe space and try writing yourself a love note. Leave your insecurities behind and think of all the things you love about yourself. If you’re able to forget about your insecurities, you’ll realize there is so much to love and so many things that contribute to what makes you special. Think about your friends. Why are they friends with you? There must be a million amazing reasons why! Finally, be your own admirer.

Self-love does not imply prioritizing one’s own interests over others. By putting yourself in a sphere of kindness and care you increase the amount of compassion in your life.
